Recyclobot Case Study

Recyclobot Case Study What is Recyclobot? Recyclobot is a hypothetical brand with a target audience of children ages 6 to 10 years old. The brand can best be described as a playful, eco-friendly subscription box that sparks kids’ creativity by turning everyday recyclables into build-it-yourself “robots” and “creatures”. Process Summary This project involved several stages, including physical construction, logo development, and poster/typography design. I began by conceptualizing an idea and building a “robot-like” creature using only recyclable materials and common craft supplies. Next, I designed a logo for the hypothetical company Recyclobot. The final, and most time-consuming, stage was creating the instructional poster, doubling as a fact sheet. This included photographing my completed creation as well as writing three educational facts for the front of the poster, and designing a detailed step-by-step instruction sheet with illustrations on the back. The goal was to make the process clear and engaging for children who might want to recreate the project at home. Logo Process Step 1: Before developing the final logo, I began by sketching a series of logo concepts, exploring at least five different directions. Some ideas built off one another, while others were completely different explorations. Despite their variety, each concept aligned with the overall tone and message I wanted the brand to communicate, helping guide me toward a refined direction. Step 2: After reviewing my sketches, I selected the concept that felt strongest and began developing it digitally in Adobe Illustrator. I experimented with multiple variations of the mascot and logo mark, but none fully captured the playful, friendly feel I was aiming for. Rather than settling too early, I continued iterating and refining the design. Step 3: Next, I explored different layout options, typography choices, and color combinations. Because the target audience skewed younger, I focused on a playful typeface and a mascot that felt welcoming and approachable. I tested various angles, proportions, and color palettes to see what best supported the eco-friendly mission of the brand. While I was pleased with the direction, I knew there was still room for improvement. Step 4: After making a final font change, introducing a secondary accent color to contrast the green, and refining the mascot’s details, I arrived at a logo that felt complete. The final design successfully brings Recyclobot to life, balancing friendliness, sustainability, and personality while clearly representing the brand’s mission.
